Acid Reflux, known as Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GORD / GERD) is a digestive condition. Acid reflux symptoms develop heartburn or indigestion.

It is particularly painful during the night when acid from the stomach seeps up to  esophagus causing discomfort, it is also known as “Heartburn Throat.”

The symptoms of acid are more or less the same for most people, what differs is the amount of time they live with it.

The longer you go without finding the best cure for reflux, the greater you risk medical complications.

Follow these 3 simple steps and become heartburn free FAST.

What are the causes of acid reflux?

Most people agree that lifestyle and diet are the two big factors for heartburn causes. So our first approach is a simple slow step-change to your current eating habits, in terms of food types and time of day.

Acid reflux remedies that are known to work

These come in various forms, I am sure you will live free from the symptoms of heartburn when you know what approach to take.

I have broken down the approaches to since different people have their own personal circumstances. How you deal with heartburn remedies is a matter of personal choice, lifestyle and current medical condition.

People want plain and simple remedies for acid reflux, heartburn, call it what you will. It has caused many sleepless nights burning the throats of its victims indiscriminately, now it’s time for you to beat heartburn with this three step cure to acid reflux guide.

Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GORD / GERD).

Let me point something important out here...

Heartburn is a SYMPTOM not a disease, it is important you see it that way since it will dictate the approach you take to relieving heartburn, especially at night.

The approach to curing heartburn:
In 3 simple steps

We need to understand our bodies will “output” what we “Input.” That goes for levels of acid in the gut when we snack on quick foods to fill us up rather than feed us what our bodies want our digestive system has to work harder.

Heartburn at night remedy: For a soothing acid free nights sleep

  • The first approach to reliving heartburn at night, since it is when most of us suffer from reflux is to make sure there is at least four hours before you go to bed.
  • Remember, our bodies digestive system works better when gravity is on our side. It makes sense to allow the food to work its way down into the lower gut before we go “horizontal.” (Lay down).
  • Liquid will find its own level (that includes acid) and if there is too much of it (since your body has not finished breaking it down) it will find its own level which is when and why we get acid reflux at night.
  • The first thing to note in curing acid reflux is leave as long as possible after eating before you go to bed. Which brings me to the first of my Three step approach…

Good acid diets

Step One:

The wedge pillow for acid reflux:

Was an absolute God send!

If your lifestyle is a little hectic and you sometimes eat later rather than take “pills” since this works against what your body needs to do (break down food) the safest and most immediate solution to acid reflux is based on the fact “Liquid will always find its own level.”

In other words; if your body was at the correct angle, which places your esophagus above the level of stomach acid, immediately stopping the ability for acid to rise into your throat and you get a good night’s sleep!

This great “quick fix” gets you a great night’s sleep immediately. My children use them too, you can flip them for sleeping or reading. The best part is you probably will alleviate most if not all your heartburn symptoms with this approach alone.

But it will not address the causes of acid reflux

The next two steps will ensure you do exactly that now…

I purchased this type of pillow and they worked for my family, the great thing about this one is it has been approved and used by the NHS. Get yours by clicking on the image below or HERE

I used this great instant remedy to acid reflux while I introduced the second step of my three step approach to heartburn to my whole family.

Good acid diets

Step Two:

The Acid reflux diet

As I mentioned before I am a parent who found a simple cure to acid reflux in my family.

I do not profess to be an expert on the science of nutrition. However, like many parents I sifted through recommendations, articles and forums looking for a good reference which would show me how to switch from acid causing foods to a more alkaline acid suppressing diet.

The three best sources I found were clear and easy to follow, allowing me to ease my family into our acid reflux free lifestyle.

These bestselling books on acid reflux foods and diets have been written by the real experts.

Check the reviews out for yourself, I found them to be helpful and easy to follow.

Adding a change to your eating habits over a week or two will get less resistance from the family than trying to make a sudden change. (I found that out the hard way).

I found the section on acid reflux foods to avoid of particular help when shopping for the family.BAKING SODA FOR ACID REFLUX

In fact I used that list to slowly change my families eating habits. Here is a little tip for when you wish to bring change of lifestyle to your family…

  1. Re-frame what it is your doing; You go from “Stopping” foods that cause acid reflux…to…
  2. To “Introducing” or “exploring” or “experimenting” with new tastes and foods (That are not acid causing).
  3. People in general do not like to feel they have “lost” or have to “stop” something (that’s why some “diets” are hard).

Gerd Diet cookbook

Not because of loosing weight simply because no one likes to “loose.” period.

So re-frame your approach to introducing an acid reflux diet to your family by “introducing” new things (while reducing the foods to avoid).

That way no one will pay too much attention but heartburn at night will be a thing of the past.

Now you have the immediate cure for heartburn and the knowledge from the acid reflux diet books.

That leaves the final step (Before you reach for a branded medical solution).

It is not that I am against antacid pills or any other form of medication. My personal avoidance of them is due to the fact they all reduce the symptoms but that also means you now have less digestive power to break down what you ate. This can lead to constipation, well it did in my family.

Medications for heartburn do nothing when it comes to addressing the underlying causes.

Unless you change those, you will literally feel like you are constantly putting out fires while leaving the source untouched to spark up again (food or lifestyle change).Acid reflux diet

Step Three:

Home heartburn remedy

Well it is not going to be rocket science since we know it is down to lifestyle in most cases. I guess this first home heartburn remedy is more of a basic set of instructions.

A natural method consist of reducing caffeine intake, and stop eating spicy foods, along with adding a serving of alkaline food to any diet daily for two weeks. This will significantly help get you long term relief from acid reflux.

Apple cider vinegar a cure for acid reflux

This approach has been around for years, I think my grandmother used it. On the surface one might think, “Wait a moment, vinegar is an acid why would you add it?”

When taking apple cider vinegar for heartburn, yes it increases the stomach acid potency (while you’re standing up) so gravity is on your side again. Therefore your natural acids are stronger, digests food faster and reduces the presence of acid when you sleep (because it has done what it needs to do).

Apple cider vinegar for reflux

I could not find any medical research on this method but then our grandmothers may not have shared it with the Lancet but that does mean it is any less effective than paid for medication.

For those of you considering some natural remedies for acid reflux here is a quick guide to how you prepare it.

  • Add 3 teaspoons of you favourite cider vinegar here is a link for you if you need it [LINK] to a 1/2 cup of water, stir, drink, repeat until reflux has gone. I know of some people who take a glass of this before a meal, many say it helps with digestion and reduces discomfort later.

I guess no acid reflux cure would be complete with the age old heartburn remedy made so famous by Mary Poppins when she sang… A spoonful of baking soda…(I think).

Customer reviews:Can be used for cleansing your body and gives you a lot of nutrients as well. I’ve also noticed better digestion and sleep quality when using it about an hour before bed.” B. Mann Telford.

I started to use this product after reading testimonials about how it helped others with digestive issues. I found it hard to believe others who stated it helped their stomach discomfort within an hour or less. I have been suffering from gas retention, cramping, irregularity and had been downing antacids and anti gas tablets to no avail, for MONTHS I am now a believer. I started taking 2 tsp in a cup of grape juice and within an hour felt noticeably better. I have been doing this morning and evening for 2 days and feel SO much better. B. Kahma USA.

Baking soda for acid reflux

To clarify this traditional cure for heartburn; The reason this is so effective is it has a very high pH (higher than 7.0) and like antacid pills or purchased medical liquids, it neutralizes stomach acid, baking soda is cheaper and in many cases more effective.

  • Easy to make: 1/2 – 1 teaspoon per glass of water, stir until dissolved, drink all of the mixture (no more than 8oz glass). Repeat as required but don’t exceed four full teaspoons.

Do not take this for more than a week, in fact if you have followed everything I have put in this review you should not need it after the first week.

For those of you who wish to see it being made and used I have included a link to YT for you (I have nothing to do with this channel but I thought some of you may find it useful.

This has over 2,000 positive reviews on Amazon, so you don’t need to take  a risk: Baking soda works for acid reflux.

Ginger tea for heartburn relief

Last but not least my personal recommendation is Ginger tea 20 mins before a meal. If you want to go completely home remedy for heartburn, here are the instructions to make your own ginger tea.

  • Pick up some ginger root from the local farm shop,  Slice up 3 quarter sized pieces of ginger root and simmer slowly in 2 cups of water, covered, for 30 minutes. Strain the water leaving the ginger roots behind, pour into a glass, and drink all of it about 20 minutes before a meal.

I hope you found this information useful, if you have any natural remedies that worked for you why not share your experiences and successes.

Oh I almost forgot, when I said you could pass acid reflux onto others since it is not actually a disease. Well here is how acid reflux become a family and generational problem…

If we do nothing we risk creating a generation that suffers from acid reflux and it long-term associated medical problems and that can be avoided by following these simple steps to be free of heartburn.

I will leave you with one last thought to ponder…

If you are too busy to reduce your bodies natural acid response in the correct way…

What do you think will happen to your health if you do nothing?

Note: The wedge pillow and any quick remedy for heartburn is a “symptom” stopper, not a root cause eliminator.

It is diet and lifestyle long-term changes need to take place.
